Nurses Honoring Nurses
If you ever have the opportunity to care for a former nurse who has died, the Southwest Nurses Honor Guard can help pay tribute to him or her if a family requests it. There is no charge for our service.

The Nurses Honor Guard is an organization that honors nurses by performing ceremonies such as the Nightingale Tribute and the Final Call of Duty at funerals, memorials, or graveside services. We also pay tribute to nurses who are near the end of life’s journey which includes our older colleagues currently retiring or those who retired many years ago who have dedicated their lives to the profession. We also participate with the Honor Walk for those who have chosen to give the ultimate gift, their organs. The volunteer nurses who participate in the Nurses Honor Guard wear a traditional white uniform with white shoes, a nurses cap, white gloves, and a cape. A link for these items are located on the website under “Forms and Resources” . However, you may choose to purchase the white uniform and shoes on Amazon or Walmart for cost savings.
The objectives of the Nurses Honor Guard include introducing the organization and its services, demonstrating the NightingaleTribute and Final Call of Duty, working in unison with existing chapters in Alabama, and providing information on how to start a chapter.
The mission of the Southwest Alabama Nurses Honor Guard is to pay tribute to nurses at the time of their death by performing the Nightingale Tribute and Last Call of Duty at the funeral, memorial, or graveside service. This ceremony officially releases the nurse from their nursing duties.
